…Says CBN Act cannot override fundamental rights entrenched in the Constitution
The nonchalant attitude of the governorship candidate of opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, over Deltans acute hardship, hunger and frustrations occasioned by the collapsed economy and gross mismanagement of Naira redesign policy of APC national www government, is a strong indication that he does not feel the pulse of suffering citizens in the state.
Spokesperson of Delta State campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, made the assertion in a statement on Friday, saying that Senator Agege has again disassociated himself from the people by not openly condemning the obvious mismanagement of the Naira redesign policy of the APC national government which hitherto crippled commercial activities, grounded the economy and imposed hardship on citizens that voted APC into power in 2015 and 2019.
He noted that Senator Agege also distanced himself from the people of Delta State when heartless Fulani herdsman rapped and killed some women, girls, their husbands and fathers in farmlands across the state, adding that Agege is a crude politician and neck deep in the “politics of self and self alone” which is why he kept deaf ears and sealed lips; never to speak against APC evil and bad governance because of selfish personal political interests.
Oghenesivbe who is also the Executive Assistant on Communications to PDP Vice Presidential Candidate and governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, said while some governors of APC dragged Buhari’s government to Supreme Court because of the difficulties their citizens are going through to access the Naira due to government retrogressive policy, Agege consistently demonstrated that his political ambition is superior to the plight of Deltans via his “deaf and dumb” attitude.
The Delta PDP Campaign Council spokesperson noted that Deltans and by extension Nigerians, are experiencing acute hardship, hunger and extreme low life as a result of the clueless and retrogressive economic policies of APC national government in the past nearly eight years and counting, further worsened by mismanagement of Naira redesign and circulation of new currencies in the country, adding that under APC Nigeria has been rated poverty capital of the world with a huge debt burden of N77 trillion, that cannot be repaid in 50 years except miracle happened.
He urged Deltans to take note of Senator Agege’s “Politics of self and self alone” and to take a step further on February 25 and March 11, by rejecting APC at the polls and vote PDP to rebuild Nigeria and advance Delta State, noting that the Delta APC governorship candidate has negative leadership traits, and as such would always ignore the plight of Deltans even as Deputy Senate President, as can be seen from his inconsistent actions and inactions.
“Delta APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has once again become DEAF and DUMB over the hardship and frustrations of Deltans as a result of gross mismanagement of Naira redesign and new currencies circulation in the country..
“It’s an aberration for the APC national government to deprive citizens access to their hard earned monies deposited in commercial banks. It’s a breach of their fundamental rights to peaceful enjoyment of their individual monies and the Supreme Court shall of a necessity do the needful.
“The CBN Act which gave powers to the Governor of Central Bank to do certain things cannot over ride constitutional provisions. Rights of citizens must be protected by the Judiciary. What the CBN did can be likened to freezing of bank accounts of citizens without legal Court Order by denying them legitimate rights to their individual property (monies deposited in Banks).
“Agege being a lawyer and a minister in the temple of justice, ought to speak against obnoxious policies of his APC government and breach of fundamental rights of citizens. Agege is now deaf and dumb because of politics of self.
“This a dangerous signal coming from Agege, and eligible voters must of a necessity reject APC at the polls on February 25 and March 11 respectively.
“Governorship candidate of PDP in Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has been sympathizing with Deltans. He’s pained as a result of the unfortunate hardship Deltans and Nigerians are going through at this time. Oborevwori cares.
“Life was good under PDP and it’s time for PDP to return to Aso Rock to revamp our economy, restore peace and unity, restructure Nigeria, establish state police, create jobs and wealth for Nigerians, and that includes Deltans.
“The time has come for Deltans to use their PVCs to send APC away from Aso Rock and to vote PDP to rebuild Nigeria, and to advance Delta State. This is the way to go,” Oghenesivbe said.
