Prioritizing Teenage Mental health has been identified as key factor in mitigating teenagers’ social and health related challenges a factor that is often neglected by parents and other social protectors.
This were part of the observations made by the founder and chairperson, Nigerian Teen Mental Health Awareness, Omoye Fishinton during a teenage awareness campaign at Dom Domingo’s college in warri South local government area of Delta State.
Our Correspondent report that the awareness exercise is in commemoration of the World Mental Health Day.
The group joined millions across the globe including concerned organization and critical key stakeholders to observe world mental health Day.

The event was put together by a non governmental organization, Nigerian Teen Mental Health Awareness with the aim of raising the bar of discussion on the need for serious attention to be given to people suffering from mental health disorder with special concern in teenagers in the society.
Although this year’s theme says” It is time to prioritize mental health in work place and schools ” the founder and chairperson, Omoye Fishinton dwelt on teenagers which she considered vulnerable and critical to the future of any society.
Omoye and her team visited several schools to talk to teenage students on the subject matter and the adverse effects it would have on them.
She revealed some of the red flags and Factors that could lead to teenagers mental health disorder and identified, Peer pressure, Bullying, social media and substance abuse addiction.
He also added cultism to the mix.
Addressing the students of Dom Domingo college, Fishinton advised them to always speak out emphasing the realty of the condition as well as the devastating effect on their future.
Mrs Fishinton also noted that rape is another social issue that could cause young people to experience mental health disorder especially the stigma that follows it.
She called on parents and othe social protectors to prioritize the physical, mental and psychological well being of their teens as studies have shown that some are going through a lot without being able to speak out.
The students appreciated the foundation for the engagement as their concerns were addressed in most of their unvoiced issues.
The foundation in the wake of this year’s event has visited over 5 schools to heighten awareness of mental health.
The Nigerian teen mental health awareness founded in just few years ago has recorded impressive achievements and support from other bodies in mitigating challenges which teenager encounter in the society .
The students were however given books as a gesture from the foundation.
