–Dr Tidi enjoins the 250 Beneficiaries to make good use of the Empowerment
250 persons have benefitted from Warri South local Government maiden Economic Empowerment Programme tagged Warri South Local Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.
Chairman of Warri South local Government, Dr Michael Tidi, disclosed that the 250 beneficiaries were among the poor and vulnerable in various communities in the area.
Dr Tidi while addressing the beneficiaries, leaders and members of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, presented one hundred thousand Naira each as empowerment to 200 beneficiaries and also provided 50 Point of Sales, POS, machines together with direct transfer of seventy thousand Naira each to the remaining 50 beneficiaries.
Dr Tidi, who noted that the empowerment programme is dear to his heart, urged the beneficiaries to invest the money,
inorder to better their lots.
He said the council has their details and will monitor their progress and empower those that invest their money properly.
The Warri Council boss revealed that the Economic Empowerment programme is a response to the observed deficiencies in the capital base on small scale business operators and lack of investment in human capital development at the grass-root which resulted to uneven distribution of resources to the poor and vulnerable.
Dr Tidi, who added that the empowerment programme was achieved within the limits of the council’s resources, highlighted some of his administration’s achievements, including renovation of the Council’s Secretariat, rehabilitation of existing boreholes within the Local Government Area to give residents portable water, construction and sinking of 21 water schemes across the wards in the Local Government Area, provision of solar light, provision of furniture to some schools, renovation of schools, rehabilitation of roads, construction of a befitting Chairman’s Residential Quarters amongst other.
He advised the beneficiaries and other residents in Warri South Local Government Area to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCS, and vote for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
In their separate remarks, Chief Roland Oritsejafor, Honourable Griftson Omatsuli, Honourable Amah Agbajoh, Mr Johnson Agbeyegbe, amongst others said the Warri South Local Government Chairman’s gesture would go a long way to assist the beneficiaries improve their businesses.
They urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment provided to them by Dr Tidi.
The beneficiaries thanked the Warri South local Government Chairman for the gesture and pledged not to disappoint him as they would make good use of the opportunity given them.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the POS machine and money to the beneficiaries.
