Pupils and students in Uvwie Kingdom have been charged to be serious with their academics inorder to benefit from the Uvwie scholarship programme
The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom ,HRM Dr Emmanuel Sideso ,JP OON Abe I, gave the Advice at his palace in Effurun GRA Uvwie local Government Area of Delta State during the Annual Uvwie scholarship and presentation of cheques to awardees .
The Ovie of Uvwie kingdom Abe I, while addressing his subjects disclosed that the scholarship was awarded to those that merited it after writing a competitive examination organized by the Uvwie Educational committee .
The Uvwie Monarch said the scholarship is opened to all Uvwie residents irrespective of tribe and religion .
He advised the awardees to take their studies serious inorder to sustain the scholarship stressing that eduction is one of the major priority of the kingdom .
He advised the children to avoid crime and other social vices as there is no gain or award for such persons.
” I will not give Scholarship or Awards to those fighting and causing problem in this kingdom but to those who are performing well in their Academics” he stated.
Earlier the chairman of the Uvwie Educational committee Prof John Arubayi disclosed that 31 pupils from various primary schools benefitted from this year’s scholarship ,9 JSS students from various secondary schools benefitted from the scholarship while 1 senior secondary school student benefitted from this year’s scholarship .
He added that the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom approved the sum of Nine hundred and twenty thousand naira for the new awardees.
Prof Arubayi revealed that the sum of three million ,two hundred and forty thousand naira was also approved for the existing 231 scholarship awardees .
He further disclosed that to encourage Uvwie culture one master trust Williams who is a member of Uvwie cultural group was awarded scholarship by the Ovie of Uvwie .
The secretary to Uvwie council of chiefs , chief Samuel Eshenake disclosed that the Ovie of Uvwie has increased the amount for each category of the current scholarship award by 100 percent .
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom for the gesture .
They pledged to continue to work hard to retain their scholarship .
