Letugbene Federated Communities in Byselsa State has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over an alleged exclusion of payment of compensation for communities that were affected by an alleged oil spillage that occurred in Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC ) 24 Trans – Ramos Pipeline at Aghoro on 17th May , 2018
This was contained in a petition written by a distinguished indigene of Letugbene Community , Chief Akimbo Donbodighe to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dated 4th July, 2023 made available to the press .
Chief Donbodighe alleged that the said oil spillage lasted for 10 days and that it caused an enormous environmental, ecological unqualified damages in Letugbene and other communities in Delta and Bayelsa states .
He stated that consequently a certain estate surveyor and valuer was consulted to carry out inspection , assessment and value in Letugbene and other affected communities and that based on the report of the said estate surveyor and valuer , it was recommended that all the affected communities including Letugbene should be paid compensation.
Chief Donbodighe however alleged that a director general of an establishment and SPDC jettisoned the report of the said estate surveyor and valuer and excluded Letugbene Community from the list of affected communities billed for payment of compensation.
He therefore appealed to President Tinubu to intervene on the matter on behalf of Letugbene Community.
