Delta State New Commissioner for Environment Mr Ejiro Jamani says the State government will not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse blocking drainages and canals that lead to recent flooding in some local government Areas of the state
Mr Jamani was speaking on Saturday when he led officials of the ministry to monitor the monthly sanitation in Warri South and Uvwie local government areas of Delta State .
Mr Jamani flanked by the Uvwie local Government Chairman Hon Rampson Onoyake, Staff of ministry of Environment , secretary to the Warri South Council, Mr Joseph Oribioye, HOD Environment and other environmental health officers in Warri South and Uvwie local government Areas monitored the special Sanitation.
Mr Jamani and his team stormed the Ogbe-Ijoh market, Igbudu market and the popular sand sand market in Warri South council area, where the team temporary seized some goods belonging to traders that were selling during the period of sanitation
as some defaulters were made to engage in the clean up exercise.
At Hausa quarter the commissioner for environment also temporary sealed up a commercial Bank premises for not clearing up their drains.
while at a private firm by first marine gate, the commissioner counsel the security men that they should clean up their surrounding or face sanctions.
The Commissioner told traders displaying their wares on top of the drains to stop the act .
While Speaking to some commercial transporters at Warri garage, Mr Jamani advised them to have waste bin in their vehicles so that their passages can dump their wastes in the bin instead of dumping it indiscriminately .
The commissioner for Environment was also at Uvwie local government area accompanied by the Uvwie Council Chairman Hon Ramson Onoyeke to monitor the sanitation at Effurun Roundabout gateway to Warri .
Speaking to newsmen, the state commissioner said residents of the state needs to inculcate the habit of cleaning their surroundings as well as engaging the services of Private Sector Partnership PSP in disposing their waste.
He further stated that the state ministry of environment is going to work closely with the local government chairmen of the twenty five local government areas of the state with a bid to achieve the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s cleaner Delta.
Defaulters during the sanitation at Warri South and Uvwie local government areas were brought before a mobile court for flaunting the sanitation law.
