In line with Rotary International Polio Eradication Programme, the Rotary Club of Warri, Rotary Club of Edjeba and Rotary Club of Warri Central in District 9141 have embarked on the 2023 polio eradication in some health centres.
With the theme: “2023 World Polio Day Immunization Exercise” the clubs visited Eboh Primary Health Centre, Warri and administer polio vaccine on the children from age 1 to 5.
Speaking during the immunization exercise, the President of Rotary Club of Warri, Rotarian, Faith Ovie said that three clubs came together for this immunization exercise to create polio awareness and to help put an end to polio worldwide.
Rotarian Ovie said that, Rotary International remains committed to end polio and has collaborated with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Bill Gate Foundation and National Governments towards eradication of polio worldwide.
She stated that Rotarians provides services both at the community and international levels in programmes to address health-care needs, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, disaster relief and environment, stressing that Rotary gives priority for health, sustenance of world peace and community development through Rotary avenue of service.
The President of Rotary Club of Warri Central, Rotarian Obada Okumagba said that it was awareness programme to put an end to polio and to enlighten the people of the activities of Rotary “Rotary club is concerned about health and environment, eradication of polio and promote peace worldwide. What we have done today is to administer vaccine and awareness campaign.”
The President of Rotary Club of Edjeba, Rotarian Sunny Oveisi said that Rotary has been on this polio eradication campaign since 1985 and the aim is to end polio worldwide, adding that polio is a deadly disease and Rotarians have mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteers and have immunized over one billion children worldwide.
The Matron-in-charge of Eboh Health Centre, Mrs. Christiana Obianenue thanked Rotary Club for their care and for creating awareness for mothers to know the benefits of allowing their children take polio vaccine. She also thanked Rotarians for the presentation of gifts to the children.
