Rotary Club Of Ubeji on Tuesday keyed into Rotary international drive at rendering services to youths in it’s locality by organising career talk and campaign against Drug Abuse .
President of the club, Rotarian Daniel Edamayibo while addressing the students at Ubeji community Hall revealed that the event was aimed at pushing the campaign for Basic Education and literacy to the students.
Actual News Correspondent Reports that some students from secondary schools in Ubeji ,Iffie , Egbokodo all in Warri South local government area of Delta State attended the event .
The hall was filled up with students from
Atuwatse II secondary school , Iffie , Egbokodo secondary school Egbokodo , Ubeji secondary school , Ubeji , Rise international school Ubeji , Royal Part land School Ubeji , Rolex comprehensive school Ubeji and Best group of school Ubeji.
The students in the hall have one thing in common which is to know what course to study in the higher institution .
Addressing the students , the President of Rotary Club of Ubeji , Rotarian Daniel Edemayibo disclosed that September is the month for Basic Education and literacy Campaign in Rotary international calendar and keeping to it , the club decided to organise career talk and campaign against illicit Drug abuse.
Rotarian Edemayibo added that Basic Education and literacy is one of Rotary’s seven Areas of focus .
He further informed the students that Rotary is a humanitarian Organisation that cares about reaching out to people inorder to assist them in their areas of needs.
The President revealed that Rotary club of Ubeji was charter in may 5th 2011 and has embarked on meaningful projects including
Basic Education and Literacy , Disease Prevention and Management, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Economic Empowerment and Community Development, Environmental Protection,Maternal and Child Health as well as Peace and Conflict Prevention.
While urging the students to pay attention and take advantage of the career talk to make the right choice in their future career , Rotarian Daniel Edemayibo warned the students against illicit drug abuse .
Some resource persons including Rtn Tuoyo Ovie-Jack, Rtn Eyituoyo Akperi and Dr shola Mese lectured on the topics such as
How to know what course to study ,
Substance Abuse and Effects and Effects of Drugs Abuse on mental health
For her part Rtn Tuoyo Ovie-Jack advised the Students to concentrate on subjects they perform better at school and choose the career that is related to it and urged parents to support their children choice of career and not to choose for them .
While Rtn Eyituoyo Akperi and Dr shola Mese listed the effects of illicit drug abuse to include health problems, Depression and anxiety , criminal records , lost of dreams and death as well as financial distress
The Assistant Governor Zone 13 ,District 9141 Rotarian Kelm Douglas also advised the students against substance Abuse and enjoined parents and relations to help those involved in it by taking them to rehabilitation center .
Some of the teachers also urged to students to seek their professional advice when they have problem of deciding which course to read at the higher institutions .
