Rotary Club of Warri , District 9141 has identified concerns relating to the sexual health of adolescent population and significant issue of teenage pregnancy.
Addressing this issues,the club led by the President,Rotarian Regina
Edukugho took the message of sexual education for adolescent to students of Nana model college Warri and Delta Careers college Warri inorder for them to be equipped with the knowledge of sexual education.
Rotary Club of Warri in collaboration with a non Governmental organisations known as Arneaud Foundation Advancement of Women and Girls decided to deliver sexual education for adolescent programe aimed at equipping the students of Delta careers college and Nana model college Warri with the knowledge, skills and resources to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health,relationships, and promoting their overall well-being and safety.
Speaking while declaring the seminar opened , president of Rotary Club of Warri, Rotarian Regina Edukugho said with the rate at which teenagers are giving birth to children in the society it is important for adolescents to know key aspects of the human reproductive systems and sexual anatomy in order to promote their understanding and healthy behaviors.
She added that the club through its basic education and literacy programme decided to reach out to the secondary school students to let them get better understanding of themselves at the stage of their development to adulthood.
The chief executive officer of Arneaud Foundation , Rotarian Wardah said they decided to collaborate with Rotary club of warri to further educate and create awareness of sex education to the students inorder for them to know the functions of the reproductive organs in their body and to prevent unwanted pregnancy amongst the girl child .
Rotarian Wardah presented a booklet to the students which they studied and asked questions on the topic sexual education.
During the seminar the students were divided into groups to get better understanding of the reproductive organs and how to prevent themselves from getting pregnant as teenagers.
In an interview Some of the students thanked Rotary club of Warri for the seminar which has broaden their knowledge of sexual education
At the end of the seminar Rotary Club of Warri donated Notebooks to the students and introduced Interact club to both schools ,assuring the students that the club will soon induct them as members of interact club a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people age 14 to 18
