There was an unrest in the ancient Agbarho community of Ohrere in Ughelli North Local Government Area as indigenes in their numbers protested the alleged release of a suspected killer of an indigene on Sunday 28th May , 2023.
The President General of the community Chief Gilbert Afatakpa Omos who spoke to newsmen identifed the dead indigene simply as Omavuaye and his suspected killer as Gbogbo spoke on the issue , he narrated that the deceased and his suspected killer were friends and that he ( the president general ) was informed that two days before the incident, the two friends were at the Agbarho Bridge on Effurun Ughelli Road , Agbarho Ughelli North Local Government Area at about 2am
” I was told that they saw a commercial tricycle ( keke ) heading towards them and therefore decided to dive into the river under the bridge for safety.
” Ogbogbo ( the run away suspect ) told members of Agbarho Kingdom Central Vigilante who apprehended him that he came out of the river without his friend Omavuaye” he added.
Chief Omos stated the Agbarho Kingdom Central Vigilante members brought the suspect to Ohrere where the matter was treated and that not satisfied with the explanation of the suspected , they ( Agbarho Kingdom Central Vigilante Committee members ) took him away further investigation.
” I obliged because Agbarho Kingdom Central Vigilante Committee is superior to our vigilante committee.
” However I learnt that Ogbogbo ( the suspect ) has escaped.
The President General of Ohrere Agbarho also narrated that the immediate elder brother of Omavuaye informed him that Omavuaye was found stone dead afloat in the said river with bullet wounds on his face .
” I then advised him to report the matter to the police who came and took photographs of Omavuaye and said that Omavuaye should be buried at riverside where he was found afloat.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Delta State Police Headquarters DSP Bright Edafe promised to call back but he did not do so at as the time of filing this report
