Market women in Warri on Friday staged a peaceful protest along the NPA expressway in Warri South local government area of Delta State to decry their inability to access money from Banks despite Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN announcement to Nigerians on the availability of the new Naira notes in all Banks across the nation .
The traders with placards bearing their grievances blocked the express way pressing home their demands.
The protesting traders drawn from Ogbe – Ijoh market, Iron market and main market all in Warri South Local Government Area threatened to boycott the elections if their plight is not addressed.
The Protesters disrupt traffic and singing solidarity songs to channel their grievances over inability to access their money at the Banks.
The traders were equally seen with placards with inscriptions pointing at the central bank of Nigeria for its inability to circulate the new Naira notes to the grassroots.
The women from the various market groups lamented how the present situation in the country such as hike in transportation, no cash, exorbitant fee charged at the point of sales, POS is crippling their business as the few buyers who come insist they pay through electronic transfer due to non availability of cash.
some of traders revealed that they now battle with fake alerts and pay up to two thousand Naira to get ten thousand Naira.
They called on the central bank of Nigeria and other relevant authority to address the situation as it was already taking a huge toll on them especially the cost of living.
