Some concerned passengers in Warri have bemoaned the constant traffic jam in Hausa Quarter by Warri / Sapele Road.
Those that spoke to our correspondent, complained that the issue was also a nightmare to law abiding commuters who see the said road as a no go area any time they were engaged in serious business mostly at day time .
They also identified the major causes of the constant traffic hold ups to indiscipline on the parts of commercial bus ( kpelegbe ) and tricycle ( keke ) operators, alleged sharp practices of government traffic control agents, wrong parking of vehicles , activities of beggers among others.
A Warri based public analyst, Chief Akpojotor Adjarho noted that the commercial operators break traffic roles at will with impunity in the presence of government traffic control agents.
Anthony Ikemefuwa who made the same allegation, also alleged that government traffic control agents treated the commercial operators as kings of the road ” because keke and kpelegbe drivers are their ATM . That is why they can even park at the centre of the road to do their businesses even with the assistance of yellow fever ( traffic wardens ). ” he added.
Ikemefuwa futher alleged that officials of Delta State Management Traffic Authority ( DESTMA ) posted to the area for traffic control were involved in the alleged sharp practices.
Joseph Oghenekevwe alleged that heavy duty trucks that brought goods to the nearby Igbudu Market were often wrongly parked on both sides of the road .
He alleged also that Hausa born beggers occupied a large space at the Igbudu Market side of the road to do their unenviable business .
