Reverend Ejiro Ekujuvwevwo, a priest of the Anglican Communion, St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, has explained that Jesus’ riding on a donkey instead of a horse, as was usually done by kings at that time, during their triumphant entry into cities, showed Christ’s level of simplicity, humility and virtues, calling on all Christians to emulate Jesus Christ
Reverend Ekujuwevwo stated this, Sunday, during this year’s Palm Sunday celebration with the theme, “Christ’s simplicity and humility.”
Palm Sunday is usually celebrated by Christians on the Sunday before Easter, to commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
The cleric explained that “Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem was not only in fulfilment of scriptural prophecy, but mostly to reconcile both the needy and sinners to God, hence he was mostly seen around them instead of around the Pharisees.”
The clergyman noted that Jesus Christ understands the suffering and pains that those in need go through, as he was born by poor parents while on earth, but assured all who continue to lean and trust in him while living right that they would surely triumph over circumstances that have held them back.
Mrs. Ogheneochuko, a parishioner of the church, described her excitement at being part of the Palm Sunday service thus: “I believe my being in church today is divine as I had been ill since last week; however, listening to Rev. Ejiro who affirmed our triumph over every life-threatening situation, including sickness, as long as we continue to trust in God, has brought phycological healing to me which I know will lead to my permanent physical healing,” she stated.
