Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to work with the military high command and stakeholders to restore peacefully coexistence between Okuama and neighbouring communities.
Executive Assistant on Orientation and Communications to the Governor, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, gave the assurance on Sunday while speaking as a guest of News Central Television Breakfast Extra Show via DSTV Channel 422, saying that Okuama community will continue to attract the governor’s attention until peace and full scale socioeconomic activities is restored.
He said the governor’s visit to Okuama on Saturday was a clear demonstration of his unwavering commitment to ensure due process is followed to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the horrific killing of four officers and thirteen soldiers, as well as to fast track the return of fleeing innocent people from their community.
Oghenesivbe corroborated the claim of the military on why governor Oborevwori could not immediately visit the community after the incident took place, saying that scene of crime in criminal matters requires due process, so as to ensure that critical evidence were obtained in the course of investigation.
The EA Communications assured that governor Oborevwori, as the Chief Security Officer of Delta State, will always be fair to all concerned, especially in peace and conflict resolution matters, adding that the state government and the military are already doing the needful to bring back fleeing innocent people to Okuama community.
“Okuama Killings came as a surprise after the governor and the state government brokered peace in February, between Okuama and Okoloba communities.
“Since the unfortunate incident occured, the state government and the governor, in collaboration with the military high command have been working behind the scene to get back the innocent people who fled their community after the killings.
“The visit of governor Oborevwori to Okuama community on Saturday arrests to his commitment to serve the people, especially to fast track return of social and economic activities.
“The governor will ensure that Okuama bounces back within the shortest possible time, with the cooperation of the military.
“The AVM David Ajayi Board of Enquiry constituted by Defence Headquarters, DHQ, is meeting and interacting with the people.
“And at the appropriate time the governor will look into the infrastructure and socioeconomic needs of Okuama community, as a result of the unfortunate incident,” Oghenesivbe said.
