Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has hailed the leadership of the Organised Labour in the state for always engaging in dialogue in resolving issues that relate to the welfare of workers.
Governor Okowa was speaking on Monday while addressing workers during this year’s May Day celebration at the Cenotaph, Asaba, Delta state capital.
The State Governor stated that his administration will continue to embark on training and re-training of the workforce in the state and improve their welfare packages till the very last day of his administration.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said his administration will continue to put the interest of workers in the state first till the very last minute of his administration.
The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah acknowledged the smooth and cordial relationship that had existed between the workforce in the state and the executive.
He commended the workers for their unflinching support to his Government which he noted contributed to the successes recorded during his two tenures of eight years.
Governor Okowa appealed to the leadership of the NLC to extend the same cordial relationship to the incoming administration of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori
He expressed optimism that the Governor-elect will carry the workforce along as he understands the challenges faced by the workers in the state.
He highlighted the new approved retirement age for teachers, soon-to-be-paid workers arrears, regularization of sixty-one workers at Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba and assured that workers in the state will benefit from more training programmes and welfare packages before his administration comes to an end.
Governor Okowa congratulated the leadership of the Nigeria labour Congress NLC, Trade Union Congress TUC and other Affiliate Unions on the workers Day celebration .
For his part the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State Council, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku while commending the state workers for their service for a better society equally hailed the state Governor for the robust relationship with organized labour in the state.
