The Delta State Chairman of Accord Party , Fred Obi an engineer, has called for a review of activities of private boat operators in Delta State.
This was contained in his statement of condolence to Delta State All Progressive Congress (APC) over the lost of some of its members in a boat mishap in a campaign rally to Warri South -West Local Government Area recently , issued in Jeddo Okpe Local Government Area on Tuesday 3rd January, 2023
” This incident is a wake up call on the ruling government, to urgently review the activities of the private boat operators operating in our riverine communities and within the axis of Delta State.
“The safety policies should be looked into with a view to injecting new order that will regulate the activities of the operators.
“This is very necessary as that will help to control recklessness and violation of existing regulations which no doubt had led to the loss of lives and properties just like this one that has led to the death of promising men and women.” The statement added
The statement commiserated with the APC Family as well as the immediate family members of those that lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.
Obi also used the statement to beared his mind on the forthcoming general elections.
” For those of us still living, We thank God for securing our lives and for making it possible for us to see the year 2023.
” No doubt 2022 was a Year that have been adjudged by many as a year that came with alot of challenges especially as it relates to our economy and politics.
“However, 2023 in our view is going to be much more critical than 2022, this is because of the forthcoming general elections in February and March 2023.
“Our decision when we go to the poll to elect our leaders at all levels will determine the direction we are heading to, our decision will answer the question as to whether we will move forward or backward.” The statement added.
The Chairman of Accord Party in Delta State assured that the party ” will maintain a role especially in navigating the activities of opposition political parties in the state.
” We have continued to maintain that, instruments or structures of governance must not be pulled down to register our position or views on issues of governance.
” All criticism must be constructive, while still condemning the activities of some of these Political commentators with offensive and derogatory languages, we employ the ruling party in the state to be open and accept criticism as the hallmark of democracy.
“As a plitical party, we will continue to be constructive in all our engagements with the ruling party on issues of policies especially as it affects the people of the State.”
” This is why as we prepare to chose our leaders between February and March 2023, our decision is key to knowing whether we are truly ready to move this nation or Delta State forward “
