Nasarawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged suicide by a 23-year-old 100-level microbiology student of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Miss Sarah Maikefi.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria said personnel of the Angwan Lambu Police Division in Keffi Local Government Area have been deployed to the area where the incident took place to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suicide.
The late Sarah Maikefi, according to her cousin, Miss Patience Maikefi, who is also a student of the Nasarawa State University Keffi, explained that the deceased called her on the phone after completing her semester examinations on Friday afternoon and told her that she was tired of everything and could not bear it any longer.
She stated that when the deceased ended the call abruptly, she called back several times, but she did not answer until her roommate called her to meet them at the school clinic.
Miss Patience Maikefi, who spoke amidst tears, stated that on reaching the university clinic, she discovered that her cousin had died after taking a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.
A close friend of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said the late Miss Sarah Maikefi had earlier called to inform him that she had completed her last semester examinations and needed to take a little rest before going to Akwanga.
He claimed that a few hours after their phone conversation, she did not return his calls until he was later informed that Sarah had committed suicide.
He added that she had been suffering from depression following alleged betrayal by her friends, as, according to him, she had contemplated suicide on several occasions.
The deceased has since been buried in her hometown in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
