National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says beginning from Tuesday, 2 May, the agency will commence processes to test randomly selected products of a particular noodles popularly consumed in the country to ascertain claims of cancer-causing substance before reaching out to the public.
The development followed the detection of ethylene oxide, a substance known to cause cancer, in the product by the health institutions in Taiwan and Malaysian.

Ethylene oxide is a colourless, odourless gas that is used to sterilize medical devices and spices and has been described as a cancer-causing chemical.
Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has assured Nigerians that importation of Noodles into the country has been banned for a very long period and such ban has not been lifted, so consumers have no cause for alarm.
NAFDAC follows very strict food safety controls in monitoring noodles production in Nigeria.
According to data from the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is currently among the largest consumers of instant noodles with 1.92 million servings as of May 2020.
The country also ranked 11th in the global demand for noodles ranking.
