The Provost of College of Education Warri,Dr Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi has appreciated and commended Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for his commitment to the development and support for the college.
This was contained in his key note address during the 46th/ 34th matriculation ceremony of the regular and weekend National Certificate of Education ( NCE ) students of the college held on Friday 7th February, 2025.
” This development you see on campus are fall outs of the MORE Agenda of His Excellency” he added .

The Provost of College of Education Warri also gave kudos to Governor Oborevwori for his compassion for workers in the state
” Also I must commend His Excellency ( Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for his compassion for workers in the state.
Salaries are paid promptly and any issue pertaining to workers salaries is given prompt response since assumption of office as executive governor.
” On behalf of Delta State workers, especially heads of tertiary institutions , I salute you”
He had earlier gave Governor Oborevwori a pat on the back for approval and commencement of work on the college administrative block which he said was abandoned for thirteen years.
” The completion of this project will open up more space for other development projects in the college because those make shirts administrative structures will give way .
” Also , your Excellency Sir, our students are grateful for bursary payments.
” This will go a long way in meeting the cost of their programmes . ”
Dr Oyovwi also applauded and appreciated the Chairman of the Governing Council of the college, Hon ( Mrs ) Shola Diablo, members of the council, key officials, union leaders and the entire college community for their tireless efforts in promoting excellence and peace.
The Provost of College of Education Warri while congratulating the matriculants also admonished them to abide by the college ‘ s rules and regulations as he warned that” We have zero tolerance for anti – social behavior, including examination malpractice, cultism and drug abuse ”
He however advised the matriculants to utilize the counseling unit, student affairs unit and academic advisers for support when faced with challenges .
Oyovwi had earlier in his articulated address , gladly disclosed that the college will soon undergo an accreditation exercise by the National Commission of Education ( NCCE) just as he expressed optimism that this will ensure that academic programs of the college meet the highest standards .
” Furthermore, I am delighted to inform you that the National Assembly has approved the dual mode for college of education.
” This landmark approval enables us to award bachelor ‘ s degrees in education, providing a seamless transition for our NCE graduates into degree programs.”
He disclosed that the Delta State House of Assembly was working on domesticating the dual mode in Delta State just as he announced that all things being equal, the college will commence the operation of the dual mode in the next academic session.
” The import of this, is that, when you conclude your programme, you will spend two years to earn a bachelor degree and proceed for the National Youth Service Corp ( NYSC )
” Thus , offering our students a streamlined transition into degree programs, provided they meet the required criteria ”
Oyovwi also delighted to disclose that the college has experienced significant growth in infrastructural development.
” We have secured approvals for a 400 – room facility and benefited from TETFund High Impact Projects, comprising students hostels, classrooms and a conference room ”
Oyovwi further disclosed that the Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC ) also contributed to the infrastructural development of the college with the provision of solar powered street lights which he said has boosted safety in the campus just as he hinted that the college will soon establish a pure water factory to generate fund and provide vocational training for students.
A year one computer / biology weekend program student , Miss Glory Oputu who spoke to our correspondent described the event as wholesome as she promised to put in her best to make good grades in her studies.
Another matriculant, Henry Sajin Ojiyovwi College, of Physics Lab , applauded the Provost for his address as he promised to abide by the Provost ‘ s advice to matriculants contained in the address.
