The Delta State Commissioner for Urban Roads and Highways, Comrade. Reuben Izeze has clarified to the people of Ibusa community that the State Government through the State Executive Council approved the ongoing expansion of Umejei road/drains construction, and not dualization as speculated by the people.
Comr. Izeze made this clarification at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area when he visited the project site, accompanied by the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Innocent Esenwezie, the Director Urban Roads, Engr. Solomon Akpotohwo and other staff of the Ministry.
Responding to a concern raised by the President -General of Ibusa Community Development Union, Chief. Victor Uchuno, the Commissioner recalled that the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, accompanied by Hon. Esewezie had sometime visited the road where he directed the State Ministry of Urban Roads and Highways to commence the expansion of the road with double side concrete drains.
He stressed that there was no time the dualization of the road was contemplated, adding that the Governor by nature has priority for people’s homes, even as he maintained that there was no need to demolish people’s buildings and properties in which they have lived for years in the name of bringing development to the community.
The commissioner further informed the people that the volume of traffic in the community was not that high to demand for dualization, saying that the rumours being peddled round the community that it was dualization that was approved by the Governor was not true.
He enjoined them to shun misinformation, stressing that the project was only awarded two weeks ago by the Delta State tenders board, even as he expressed confidence on the Contractor and the quality of job done so far, saying he is satisfied with the pace and quality of work.
He disclosed that recently the contractor handling the project, Lebtech Construction Ltd were aggressively confronted while working on site by some residents of the community, claiming that the project was supposed to be a dualization.
The manager, Lebtech Construction Ltd, Engr. Elie Zahoue said that the timeline for the execution of the project was between five to six months from now.
Earlier, the President-General of Ibusa Community Development Union, Comr. Victor Uchuno on behalf of the people expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the great work.
He described the visit of the Commissioner as timely, noting that since eight (8) months ago, there has been a rumour that the road was awarded as dualization project, saying it’s a good thing that the air has been cleared by the commissioner regarding the true status of the project.
