The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike , has commended women in the council, noting that they are endowed with the right entrepreneurial and leadership orientation to uplift their communities.
From Ubulu-Uku to Ogwashi-Uku and Nsukwa, he said women in the local government areas have brought honour and global acclaim to the clans.
In a statement, Pastor Chukwunwike said: “To the esteemed women of Aniocha South, as we celebrate you on International Women’s Day today, I am honoured to express my deepest appreciation and admiration for the remarkable women in our local government.
“Today and always, we acknowledge and celebrate your tireless efforts, resilience, and determination in shaping our society.
“The theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Accelerate Action for All Women: Rights, Equality, Empowerment,’ serves as a powerful reminder of the progress we have made, and the work yet to be done.
As a local government, we are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment where women and girls can thrive.
“We acknowledge the significant contributions women make to our communities, from driving economic growth to leading social change. We also recognize the challenges and barriers that still exist, including gender-based violence, economic disparity, and limited representation in leadership roles”, he stated.
He pledged his administration’s three-prong approach to creating a clement environment for women to actualise their potential. The strategies include:
*Promoting gender equality through policies and initiatives that address the concerns of systemic inequalities faced by women and girls.
*Empowering women for leadership by providing opportunities for women to take on leadership roles and participate in decision-making processes, and
Support women’s economic empowerment through initiatives that promote women’s entrepreneurship, employment, and financial inclusion.
“Today and every day, we celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of women in our community. We honour your achievements and recommit ourselves to working towards a brighter, more equitable future for all”, the chairman said.
