The Proprietress of the famous Shamar Schools Enerhen in Uvwie Local Government Area, Ambassador Dr (Mrs) Onyi Ikemefuna has appealed to the Delta State Government for the extension of enrollment for external examinations in primary and secondary schools in the state.
The renowned educationist cum counselor made the appeal in an exclusive media interaction with our correspondent at her school on Monday 15th January, 2024
Ikemefuna who appealed that the enrollment should be extended to February ending stated that she was speaking the minds of members of National Association of Proprietors Of Private Schools ( NAPPS ) , Delta State Chapter .
She stated that parents were running round to pay the enrollment levies of their wards at as the time of the media chat, appealing that the planned penalty for late enrollment should be shelved.
Ikemefuna appealed that the Delta State Government should reduce taxes on private schools and that the burden of taxes were adversely telling on private schools in the state just as she also appealed that there should be a proper identification of taxes to be paid by private schools and those assigned to collect the taxes .
She complained bitterly that private schools were made to pay taxes that they do not know of and alleged that private schools were being harassed by all manners of tax collectors .
Ikemefuna called for the establishment of community policing in order to ensure safety in schools .
She promised to patner with Delta State in the training of community police officers and also offer scholarships to them .
She however called on private schools to always provide a clean and conducive environment of learning and teaching at all times .
The Proprietress of Shamar Schools Enerhen, Uvwie Local Government Area had earlier remarked that the relationship between Delta State Government and private schools was cordial as she asserted that private schools were supporting partners to Delta State Government in the educational system and therefore should be lauded for enhancing the development and growth of education in the state.
She praised Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for his laudable achievements so far.
” I see him ( Governor Oborevwori ) as a man who has the fear of God .
” He has not disappointed Deltans so far . I see him lighting up the state .
” I pray God should continue to empower him to do the best for Delta State ” she added
