—-Directs appointees to remain in office till midnight of Sunday
As Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration draws the curtain on Sunday night, the State Executive Council, Friday held its valedictory session, at the Exco Chamber of Government House, Asaba, Delta state amidst mixed feelings.
Addressing the Exco members for the very last time, Okowa said his administration’s success stories would not be complete without references to the top government officials.
Noting that the team worked tirelessly with him to make Deltans and the state better, Dr Okowa said his administration did not only construct physical bridges but built bridges of unity among the various nationalities in the state, adding that Deltans must remain united in their quest for more development.
He said the impact of his administration in terms of projects execution, including roads and bridges infrastructure, health care, peace and security, empowerment and other human capital development were novel particularly the entrepreneurship programmes that have turned several youths into entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
Governor Okowa explained that it took courage to take practical development to riverine communities which was hitherto neglected on the excuse of difficult terrain, maintaining that his administration had made a bold statement with landmark infrastructure executed in rural and riverine areas across the state.
Dr Okowa stated that the peace and security experienced through his eight years in office was due to the efforts of members of the State Exco in collaboration with security agencies, stressing that peace in the state was something to be proud of.
The Governor said he had forgiven any member of the Exco who did not meet his or her expectations, and appealed that such forgiveness should be extended to him by those he also did not meet their expectations.
On the outcome of the presidential election, the governor said there was a lesson to learn from every situation, even as he thanked the political class, traditional rulers, the church and entire Deltans for the massive support for PDP at the March 18th 2023 Governorship election in the state.
Dr Okowa also paid glowing tribute to the mass media for projecting the activities of the state government all through the eight years.
In their separate speeches at the session, the SSG, Patrick Ukah, Commissioners for Information, Charles Aniagwu; Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba; Women Affairs, Mrs. Flora Alantan, and Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije lauded the achievements of the Okowa administration.
They described Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a teacher, workaholic, focused and a peace builder whose footprints would remain indelible in the annals of history.
Others who spoke, include, Chief of Staff, Government House, Festus Agas; Senior Political Adviser, Funkekeme Solomon; Economic Adviser to the governor, Kingsley Emu and the Head of Service, Reginald Bayoko.
They submitted that Governor Okowa had shown intellectual capacity in governance and was leaving Delta more united than he met it, adding that his style of leadership would be a reference point.
Meanwhile, the Governor at the session directed the appointees to remain in office till midnight of Sunday, May 28, 2023.
