A one time Secretary General of Urhobo Progress Union( UPU) Worldwide, Chief Peter Asagba has urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to have a unified local security outfit with Edo , Bayelsa and Rivers state governors .
He made the call in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent on some important issues affecting Nigeria at Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area last weekend.
Asagba who is the traditional major of Amukpe District in Okpe Kingdom explained that the call was necessitated by the need to check the rise of crime wave such as kidnapping , armed robbery among others in the said states as he stated that the suggested local security outfit should operate like Amotekun in the South West states.
The respected Okpe chief gave his nod to the removal of oil subsidy as which he said was a drain to the nation’s s economy
He noted that monies spent on oil subsidy in the past years were enough to build over six oil refineries . ” Somebody was there for eight years, he did not do anything about it but Tinubu just for one day, did the right thing ” he added
Similarly Chief Asagba stated that nobody should quarrel about the naming of some Nigerian airports over non indigenes in the interest of unity of Nigeria.
He sited the naming of important places after non Indigenes in Lagos and Abuja among others cities to make home his point.
He however expressed deep concern over the highly deplorable state of roads in Nigeria particularly the Sapele / Benin Road as he suggested that revenue for the rehabilitation of the said road should be derived from toll gate systems .
Asagba who is the MD / CEO of the prestigious Casa Depro Hotels Refinery Road Effurun also frowned at the extreme poor state of electricity in the country.
While noting that the issue had adversely affected the social economic life of Nigeria, he called on the Federal Government to prevail on the contactors concerned to do something urgently to remidify the situation.
Speaking on education, he said that he would rather support the establishment of industries than establishment of more universities because of the teaming university graduates in the labour market.
Asagba lamented that most of the said university graduates were engaged in menial jobs owing to lack of employment .
The former Secretary General of UPU however urged the present leadership of UPU to approach Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the actualization of the Mukoro Mowoe University dream.
He however advised Governor Oborevwori to keep to his promise of focussing on the development of the Warri area as he noted that ” Warri area is known as the commercial hub of Delta State, yet there is nothing to show for it in terms of developments. ” he added
