—-Osuoza asks parastatals, ministries and agency of Government to pay for their reports
Delta State Commissioner for Information Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza says Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has set up machinery to revamp Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Warri, for improved services.
Dr Osuoza disclosed this during a meeting with the Board of Directors ,management and staff of DBS Warri as part of his routine visit to the state parastatals under his jurisdiction
Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza who was received at the Edjeba premises of Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri by the Board, Management and Staff and immediately entered into a meeting with them to rub minds on how to tackle the issues affecting the station.
Chairman, Board of Directors DBS Warri, Elegbete Moses Odibo highlighted some of the challenges facing the establishment and appealed to the Commissioner who was the immediate past Chairman of DBS Warri Board of Directors, to use his office to address these challenges.
General Manager of DBS Warri, Pastor Malcolm Oteri thanked the Commissioner for the visit and expressed confidence that the station will receive attention during his time.
At an enlarged meeting with staff, Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri Chapel Comrade John Glover said the major problem of the station is electricity power as the high cost of diesel has made it difficult to purchase diesel to run the radio.
Comrade John Glover suggested that, a smaller transmit of about five kilowatts is needed for the radio while a terrestrial transmitter is needed for the Television as well as solar power supply, all estimated at ninety million naira.
He added that, while waiting for the Governor to act, on the interim, the Commissioner should give subvention to augment for diesel purchase, provide vehicles, streetlights and other equipment to keep the station running
Chairman of Radio, Television, Theatre, Arts Workers Union RATTAWU Comrade Faith Umukoro and other staff appealed to the Commissioner to come to the aid of the station noting that the problem of the station is beyond what management can handle.
Responding, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza acknowledged that the situation of the DBS Warri station has really gone bad compared to when he was the Board Chairman of the station noting that he was not new to the situation.
Dr Osuoza assured staff and management of the station that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has initiated plans to revamp the station and make it world class.
He promised to address the immediate concerns of the station, while awaiting for Government’s intervention.
Dr Osuoza thanked staff of the station for their resilience and commitment to duty.
