Following the arrest of 67gay suspects at a same-sex wedding ceremony in Delta state on Tuesday, a Nigerian-British based pastor and Founder, House of Rainbow Jide Macaulay has condemned the police for carrying out such action against the suspects.
Actual News earlier reports that the Delta State Police Command arrested over 100 alleged homosexuals who were present at a midnight wedding ceremony of a gay couple in a hotel in Warri.
Talk of nija reports that Macaulay, expressed his support for the LGBTQ+ community in Nigeria and criticized the police for violating their human rights.
He continued by urging that the police
should focus on tackling the real security
threats in the country, such as
insurgency and hate crimes, instead of
wasting their resources on targeting
innocent LGBTQ+ people.
It’s crucial to note that the existing anti-gay legislation primarily aims to prosecute same-sex relationships and intimate encounters, rather than social interactions.
“Allowing LGBTQ+ individuals in Nigeria to live openly and peacefully should be a priority.
“The anguish expressed by the LGBTQ+ community resonates deeply, as they navigate an environment marked by hostility and anxiety.
