Delta State Governor and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the Federal Government, corporate bodies and well meaning individuals to come to the aid of flood ravaged communities in the state.
Okowa made the call on Wednesday, when he visited flood victims at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps at Utagba-Ogbe Technical College, Kwale, Ndokwa West local Government Area ,Alaka Grammar School, Ozoro,Saint Michael’s College Oleh and Isoko Central School, Oleh in Isoko North and South Local Government Areas .
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who defiled the heavy downpour expressed delight at the solidarity and cooperation so far demonstrated by residents and well meaning Deltans since the natural disaster occurred.
He urged them to continue to assist one another in this trying period as Government cannot do it alone.
The Governor empathised with all the flood victims in the state assuring that his administration would continue to support their welfare until they are able to return to their various homes when the water recedes.
Dr Okowa expressed satisfaction with the facilities in the seven camps visited so far and the enthusiasm of the people in the various holding camps .
He assured that Government was also managing many other camps in various communities closer to people who could not come to the existing eleven camps.
He thanked the camp commandants and management of various camps for ensuring that children were taught in the holding camps and advised parents in camps to ensure that their children avail themselves of the opportunity.
ACTUAL NEWS Reports that Over three vehicles in the Governor’s convoy were trapped on the road as a result of flood while trying to locate the IDP camps including the press and medical ambulance buses.
Some of the flood victims in Isoko area and kwale IDP camps danced under the rain in appreciation to the Governor for defiling the rain and flooded roads to visit their camps.
Camp Commandants in the various holding centres briefed the Governor on activities at the centres.
