The All Progressive Congress ( APC) member representing Warri South Constituency 11 at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Chief Benson Obire has called on the authorities of Wastage Management to evacuate refuses that litered various places in the constituency.
He made the call during the last Delta State Government monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the constituency.
Obire stated that exposure of refuses on major roads was an eyesore particularly to a first time visitor to Warri and that such refuses constitute health hazard to residents.
The law maker specifically expressed great concern on the heap of refuses on Warri / Sapele Road by the canal adjacent to Wema Bank at as the time of filing this report.
He also noted that the uncleared sea of refuses in the canal could cause flood when it rains.
Obire however strongly advised against the indiscriminate dumping of refuses as he noted that the unpatriotic habit was a major cause of flooding.
He reasoned that emptying of refuses into gutters during rainfall is an evil act.
The lawmaker therefore warned those involved in the ditty habit to disist from it just as he called on the relevant authorities to arrest and prosecute offenders . So as to serve as a deterrent to others.
” We should complement government efforts in solving the problem of flooding.
” So indulging in such an evil practice will only add to the problem of flooding in Warri.” he stated.
Speaking at Okere Road, Chief Obire however expressed sympathy with flood victims in the area and other areas in the constituency .
