Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC and the Ministry of Environment have commenced cleanup of drainages across Delta State.
Our correspondent reports that the exercise was flagged off at airport Road Warri.
The special drainage cleanup exercise began in the early hours of Saturday morning as the team from DESOPADEC and the Ministry of Environment free up blocked water channels as well as identify illegal structure built on natural water channels.
The team from the ministry of environment was led by the Director of sanitation and Waste Management, Mrs Francisca Atigan flanked by comrade Kingsley Iweka immediate past special assistant to former Governor Okowa

For his part Mr Okuwe told newsmen that the chairman of the Board , chief John Nani directed that they should deflood all DESOPADEC mandate areas .
He further revealed that for the past three weeks warri and it’s environs have been heavily flooded due to the heavy rainfall .
He assured that after opening of the blocked canals the area will be free from flood .
He advised residents in Warri and it’s environs to stop dumping wastes in the drains .
Also speaking the Director of Sanitation and Waste Management, Mrs Francisca Atigan said the ministry is joining force with DESOPADEC to clean up all blocked canals in the Commission’s mandated areas .
She said the state Governor , Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is worried over the flood situation in Warri and it’s environs and has put in place machineries to curb the areas from further flooding .
She advised residents in the state to patronize PSP in disposing wastes instead of dumping it indiscriminately in the drains .
“We are going from street to street soon to check those that are patronizing chart boys instead of PSP, operation show your receipt of PSP will start soon”, She said .
Mrs Atinga disclosed that the team would work daily to ensure that the water in the drains flow to the nearby river to prevent flooding .
The duo added that the ministry and agency will be firm in its duty to deligently reflect government commitment to a clean and safe environment.
While revealing to Actual News that it will also clear up the canals,they hinted that the process will equally involve identifying structure built on water ways.
Also a resident in the area, Comrade Eboh appreciated the state government for initiative to open up drainage noting it would go a long way in mitigating the impact of flood.
