Some depressed residents have barricaded Warri / Sapele Road with dugouts from the ongoing evacuation of overgrown weeds and trees from the canal close to Wema Bank of the road at the time of filing this report.
The action has made vehicular movements from Enerhen to NPA axis of the ever busy road impossible as some of the said residents were seen clearing the refuses from the canal to the road.
Those involved in the exercise explained that they did it in the spirit of save our souls ( SOS )
They complained bitterly that their residences were sacked by flood due to the uncleared dugouts of the ongoing evacuation of overgrown weeds and trees from the canal in the area.
One of them who declined to disclosed his identity , explained that ” we have no other alternative than to clear the refuses ourselves to save our homes .” he added.
It would be recalled that residents have made several appeals to the authorities concerned to clear the refuses along with the evacuation of overgrown weeds through media publications.
The Chairman of Lower Erejuwa Motor Spareparts Traders Association Warri Comrade Emeka Odili and the chairman of Igbudu II , a host community to Igbudu Market Warri High Chief Julius Tobore Edafiadjebre JP complained that the uncleared dugouts were causing nuisance and health hazard to traders and residents alike.
They also expressed fears that the uncleared overgrown weeds and trees will fine their ways back to the carnal.
The respondents had earlier commended Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for the evacuation of overgrown weeds and trees in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas.
Meanwhile both local government areas witnessed the heaviest rainfall this year on Saturday 19th August, 2023 so far .
Major roads and streets were over flooded with water as most residences and business premises were sacked by flood at the time of filing this report.
