Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) is set to carry out the second round of polio Immunization for children between the ages of zero to five years old.
In a statement by the Director, Health Promotion Office, Uvwie health authority, Mrs Ukpedor Victoria, the second round of the outbreak response campaign is to hold in all Primary Health Care Facilities and some designated points across the various LGAs, from 11th to 14th of November, 2023, with two days mop-up activities, from on the 15th through 16th of November, 2023.
Ukpedor, recalled that the eairler immunization programme which was held between the 23rd to 26th of September 2023, was not able to give the expected coverage hence, the need for a second round.
While speaking to stakeholders in Uvwie Local Governent Council, Mrs Ukpedor encouraged the independent monitors and Supervisors in Uvwie LGA to promote awareness to residents and institutions in their area as it help to eliminate resistance from parents in getting their children immunized.
In addition, Ayonoritse Tokitsemotse, State Technical Facility, noted that stakeholders involvement have become necessary as it enable compliance, knowing that residents and institutions are more likely to allow their children to be immunized when a familiar person within their community, goes ahead to enlighten and assure parents of the safety of the vaccines.
She also call on parents who have eairler immunized their children to avail them in getting a second dose as it serves as a booster against the disease.
