Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, was at the Asokoro-Abuja residence of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, on condolence visit to the family of the late foremost Ijaw National Leader and Leader Southern Nigeria.
Rt Hon Guwor, accompanied by a former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo and wife, retired Justice Roselyn Bozimo, was received on arrival by members of Chief Clark’s family led by Prof College Clark, who was flanked by E.K. Clark’s first son, Mr Penaowie Clark and first daughter, Mrs Rebecca Okorodudu.
A press statement by Guwor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, revealed that the visit of Mr Speaker to the Clark’s home was of multiple representations, including as the head of the Delta State Legislature; the Coordinator of Ijaw Political Leaders’ forum in Delta State and also as a son, having such strong family ties with the late icon.
Addressing the family members and other guests at the residence, Rt Hon Guwor recalled his last moments with Chief EK Clark, saying that he was a father figure to many, particularly people of the Niger-Delta region.
The Speaker noted that it would be difficult to have a replacement in late Chief Clark, stressing that besides living a life of service, he was an unrepentant crusader of justice, equity, fair play and environmental protection and sustainability.
Guwor condoled with the family of EK Clark and prayed God to grant the soul of the late nonagenarian and frontline leader, activist and nationalist, eternal rest.
He said, “when we got the news on that Tuesday morning that our father is gone, the Delta State House of Assembly as a people had to observe a minute silence in his hounor. Daddy was a father to the entire Delta State and the entire Niger Delta.
“For me, he was just like a direct father. Himself and my Uncle, who is presently my father-figure, were very close. That is the person of Chief Council Guwor.
Continuing the Speaker stated, “Every month, Daddy used to call me. He would say, my good son, how are you doing today? When we got into 2025, Daddy sent me a New Year message, wishing me a Happy New Year. My return message to him was a prayer that “God will keep him for us”.
“I did that because I know very well that to have somebody like him will be very difficult. Somebody who will stand for us when we need him. Somebody who will speak for the minority people, the down-trodden people of the Niger Delta. I had prayed that he will stay longer than this.
“Well, Daddy only transited as he joined all our ancestors to continue to pray for us to make our Country a better place.
“To the immediate family as led by Prof. C.C Clark, our sincere condolences to you all. His entire life was of Service, so my sincere condolences also to all of us from the Niger Delta, the South South and South East. I mentioned it to my Governor that to find a replacement for Daddy will be very difficult”, Guwor stressed.
