BOMADI—The approval for the reconstruction of the dilapidated Bomadi-Ohoror road by Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has received applause from indigenes of Bomadi, Patani and Burutu local government areas of Delta State with fervent prayers from members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Bomadi branch.
Gov. Oborevwori, during an executive council meeting, yesterday, approved the reconstruction of the Bomadi-Ohoror road, which was started by the military administrator, Brig. General Samuel O. Ogbemudia in the mid 1970s under the Mid-Western State, and was completed by Brigadier Jeremiah Useni in 1985 under the defunct Bendel State.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the executive chairman of Bomadi local government council, Delta State, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, it stated that the executive chairman of council, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, joined with his people to celebrate the governor’s good gesture.
According to the statement: “I joined together with my people to celebrate the good gesture of our amiable governor, His Excellency Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the reconstruction of the whole length of the Bomadi-Ohoror road.
“This is just a tip of the iceberg, Bomadians and all Ijaw should know that His Excellency the governor means well for all Deltans in the delivery of the dividends of democracy.
“It is a welcome development and I urge Bomadians and all Ijaw to keep faith with our workaholic governor”.

However, applauding the governor’s gesture, the Bishop Catholic Diocese of Bomadi, Most Rev. Hyacinth Oroko Egbebo, described the decision as a welcome development to the people in riverine communities.
“This is a welcome development, we’ve long expected this news from the government and I thank Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori for his response to the cry of the people in riverine communities.
“This is the only road linking us to other parts of the state and we can breathe a sigh of relief now that the governor has given the go-ahead to fix this road again. Please, convey my message of appreciation to the governor”, he said.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bomadi local government area, Chief Godwin Maze, reacting to the news said: “Kudos to the governor for this good gesture, we thank and appreciate him for remembering us.
“I also thank His Excellency the governor for reconstructing the collapsed Bedeseigha Bridge along the Bomadi-Ohoror road earlier this year. We are happy and we pray for more of such developmental activities in Bomadi and environs”.

The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Bomadi branch, receiving the news thanked the state government for turning their nightmares around.
The interim executive of the union led by Mr Tony M. Yerindideke, noted that the government’s decision had kept their hopes alive once again, stressing the road users had a lot stories to tell over their nightmares on the road.
“We as a union are praying fervently that God will continue to protect and direct our governor in his desire to put smiles on the faces of Deltans. We are very happy to hear the news of the approval by the governor to reconstruct the whole length of this road. We are praying for him and we will continue to pray for success of his administration”, he said.

More so, ex-agitators under the Third Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, have joined jubilants over the state government’s decision on the Bomadi-Ohoror road.
The chairman, Third Phase APC Ex-agitators Forum, Delta State, General Para Ekiyes, spoke to our reporter that ex-agitators and the people of Burutu local government area were currently celebrating the development.
He said: “I’m the chairman Third Phase Ex-agitators and chairman of the Third Phase APC Ex-agitators Forum, Delta State. We got the information that the state government has just approved the reconstruction of the Bomadi-Ohoror road.
“I want to say this is a welcome development to the people of Burutu local government area because it is the only road through which we get to other parts of the state.
“As I’m talking to you, we are jubilating with the people Burutu North and South Constituencies in this axis of the council area. We must do away with politics on issues of development and we, the Third Phase APC ex-agitators, hail Gov. Oborevwori for the good move.
“Again, there is no smoke without fire, some leaders from this area must have put efforts underneath before this development, especially leaders like the executive chairman of Bomadi local government council, Hon. Andaye Dagidi and we thank him for all his efforts”.

However, Contacted over the news, the state Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. izeze Reuben, disclosed that the decision of government was in fulfillment of the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Gov. Oborevwori.
“The governor, in fulfillment of the M.O.R.E Agenda of his administration, has decided to approve the reconstruction of the whole length of the 30.5 km Bomadi-Ohoror road to ease movement of goods and rural dwellers in both Delta and Bayelsa States, who are plying the road”.
