Kwale, a bustling city in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, was plunged into sorrow and fear yesterday following the violent deaths of two individuals and the injury of another in what appears to be a resurgence of cult-related violence.
The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Friday, left residents of Umusam, Utagba-Uno, and Isumpe in shock and disarray. Eyewitnesses reported that one victim was gunned down near Zenith Bank, while the other lifeless body was discovered at Utagba-Uno Junction. A third victim, gravely injured, was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Tragically, one of the deceased was set to wed on the same day as his untimely demise. His fiancée, family members, and well-wishers were left in deep mourning as the joyous occasion turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.
An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing moment. According to the source, the groom-to-be was walking with friends to purchase items for the wedding when he was ambushed and killed by suspected members of a rival cult group.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the police have so far been unsuccessful. However, security personnel have mounted roadblocks across the area to prevent further violence and contain the situation.
The atmosphere in Kwale remains tense, with parents and community members urging heightened caution as the festive season approaches. “Crimes like kidnappings and killings are becoming rampant, especially during this period,” a concerned resident remarked. “We all need to be vigilant about our movements and interactions to avoid falling victim to such incidents.”
Cultism, once rooted in ideals of brotherhood, has devolved into a web of hostility and lawlessness, undermining societal values and instilling fear in communities. The events in Kwale serve as a grim reminder of the urgent need for authorities to address the growing menace of cult-related violence.
