The Provost of College of Education, COE Warri , Dr Dickson Oyovwi has appealed to Delta State Government for the completion of the long abandoned administrative block project in the college.
This was contained in his articulated address during the commissioning of the first hall of residence for students on campus last weekend.
He also appealed to Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori to cede part of the land taken for the water project along Airport Road back to the college.
Oyovwi had stressed the need to also provide accommodation for staff on campus, mostly the junior ones as he stated that ” This will cushion the effects of the ever increasing cost of living.
” With this , there will be no cost of coming to work and the college will become a full blown community that it ought to be .”
He had noted that the college is the only tertiary institution in Warri and there urged public spirited indigenes of Warri, residents and corporate organisations doing business in Warri to contribute their quota to the development of the college.
Oyovwi had earlier gave a brief history of the college as he recalled that it was founded in 1980 during the administration of Professor Ambrose Ali of the defunct Bendel State and was later established in Warri in 1981 with the effort of Professor A . C Unomah (of blessed memory ).
He was also full of praises for his predecessor, Professor (Mrs ) Mary Olire Edema , the immediate past Governing Council Chairman of the college Chief V O T Abanum , Dr S S Ebisine ( of blessed memory ) among others for their immense contributions towards the actualization of students hostel accommodation on campus.
The Project Manager of Ingowet Services Limited, C O Aduze a private partner in the establishment of the ultra modern students hostel on campus, in his keynote address, stated among other things that ” Ingowet Services Limited is the private partner in this collaborative infrastructure delivery process while College of Education Warri Delta State under the Ministry of Education is the public private partnership (PPP)
” Succinctly, the project we about to commission is a public – private partnership” he added
Aduze explained that PPP is a global infrastructure delivery system because according to him government alone cannot provide requisite infrastructure for the citizens
He posited that ” As the population increases there is the need for more infrastructures to meet the needs of the population .
” It is imperative to state here that infrastructures are the key to national development”
He therefore stated that the education cannot strive without infrastructure just as he stated among other things that the hostel in the school premises will go a long way in providing security for the students.
High point of the event was the commissioning of the edifice by the Chairman Governing Council of the College, Hon (Princess) Shola Diabo
The Provost of the College Warri , Dr Dickson Oyovwi who spoke to newsmen shortly after the historic event expressed appreciation to God for the huge success of the ceremony just as he was also full of appreciation to those who graced it .
