Some residents of Warri South Local Government Area have lauded Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori on the ongoing desilting of canals in the area.
Those that spoke to our correspondent however appealed that the refuse in the canals that were mostly empty cans and plastic containers should be cleared along with the overgrown weeds and trees .
The Chairman of Lower Erejuwa Motor Spareparts Traders Association Comrade Emeka Odili hailed Governor Oborevwori for the clearing and evacuation of the overgrown weeds and trees in the canals .
He noted that the exercise when completed will solve the perennial problem of flooding in the local government area.
He however expressed deep concern over the wastes that filled the canals after the evacuation exercise .
Another concerned resident , High Chief Julius Tobore Edafiadjebre who spoke in the same vein, noted that the wastes have defaced the environment and also constituted nuisance and health hazard to residents.
Both respondents therefore appealed that the wastes should be cleared without any delay.
However a member of Delta State Government team saddled with the clearance of overgrown weeds and trees in the canals , Comrade Fetus Ukeje who also expressed concern over the littered refuse in the canals assured that authorities of waste management will be contacted for the clearing of the wastes ” swamp buggy cannot clear the refuses ” he added
