Egbe Residents in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State have appealed to Delta state Government to come to their aid by reconstructing the collapsed Canal in their Area .
The residents disclosed that accessing the main road is difficult for them, saying their area have been isolated, due to the recent collapse of their canal, caused by heavy flooding that recently rocked some part of Effurun and Warri.
While calling on Delta State government to come to their aid, Mr Onome, a resident in the area, expressed pain, difficulty and fear himself and other residents goes through everyday while climbing on a temporary wooden ladder, which served as a mini bridge that help residents gain access to the other side of the road.
“An old woman almost fell into the canal, while climbing on the ladder that linked to the other half of the close, but for the quick intervention of a mobile police man that is stationed to guide the area” he stated.
The mobile police man who spoke to our reporter on the ground of anonymity, explained that ” the situation is so pitiable that I have to help residents, mostly children and aged, climb through the emergency bridge, as it has form part of my security duties here” he explained.
A nursing mother who also did not state her name, assert: ” the collapse of the canal has made mobility more strenuous for me as I now walk a longer distant to access Jakpa road.
Climbing through a wooden bridge with my baby is risky, knowing that a woman almost fell into the canal, few days ago” she added.
Another resident who owned a car, hoped for the timely reconstruction of the canal as he explained that “cost of living for me and my family have increased even though income have not increased.
We now take a longer route, through Stephens Church, or Church of God mission, Praise Center road, to reach our house, making me to spend more money buying fuel that currently sell at a high price” he noted.
I hope this appeal gets to our State Governor, Rt. hourable Sheriff Oborevwori, in good faith, so he can use his good office to safe us from this suffering, as it has brought untold hardship to us” he lamented.
