The people of Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okoloba community, Bomadi Local Government Area, both in Delta State have signed a peace accord to halt further hostilities between the communities.
Our Correspondent Reports that the peace accord was at the instance of Delta State Governor,Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori
It will be recalled that the people of Okuama and Okoloba communities had in the past months accused each other of looting of property and farmlands, armed youths laying seige in the waterways, amongst others .
The two local Government chairmen of Bomadi and Ughelli South Hon Andaye Dagidi and Hon lucky Avweromre who recently came on board as local Government chairmen have been worried on how to resolve the crisis between okuama and Okoloba communities
As part of efforts to sustain the peace in both communities,Hon Dagldi and hon lucky Avweromre with the permission of the state Governor came up with a peace accord that was signed by representatives of both communities,the Pere of Akugbene mein kingdom and the Ovie of Ewu-urhobo, Ovie of Arhawarien as well as the two DPO of Ughelli South and Bomadi .
The Terms of agreement in the peace accord signed include immediate cease fire by both communities, Denouncement of violence ,Reconcilation , Access to farmlands and farming Activities,joint patrols along focados river bank bordering both communities,dispute resolution. amongst others
The local government chairmen asked the representatives of both communities not to breach the agreement reached to avoid further hostilities.
They added that the state Government would deal with anyone that breach the peace accord they signed .
Representative of the Okuama people, Ambassador Edewor Egedege and the representative of Okoloba community Dr Davis Akpobolokemi assured the state Government that as peace loving people they would abide by the peace accord .
Amb. Egedege also used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to assist in facilitating the released of some Okuama Indigenes held by the military.
The Royal father’s of both kingdoms , Pere Kalanana VIII and the Ovie of Ewu-urhobo urukpe I thanked the state Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for initiating the peace accord . They also commended both local government chairmen for sustaining the peace in both communities.
At the end of the event representatives of both communities embraced themselves.
