A member of Board of Trustees (BOT) of Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines And Agriculture, Sir (Chief) Simon Asite (JP) has stated the importance of Chambers of Commerce to the economy of Nigeria.
He stated this in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent in Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area on Thursday 21st November, 2024 .
Asite assured that the group can give useful advises that can better the economy of Nigeria.
Asite who doubles as an honorary life vice president of the group in Delta State asserted that” in the organized private sector which is the largest economy of every country in World, it is Chambers of Commerce that drive it because they are the largest employers of labour and largest number of entrepreneurs in both state and federal governments .
” Developed countries in World know this fact.
” It is only here in Nigeria that they toy with Chambers of Commerce.
” He added
Asite also stated that Chambers of Commerce advocate the right policies that positively drive the economy but however lamented that ” but unfortunately here in Nigeria that governments ignore Chambers of Commerce , when it comes to decision taking concerning the economy.
” That is why we are where we are today . This is a major challenge ” he stated.
Asite then strongly advised that government should have a change of policy as he stated that there are many policies that can positively turn the economy of Nigeria around .
He warned that for government to depend on the policy of importation without exportation is detrimental to the economy of the country
“Government has the opportunity to propel the economy positively .
” In those days we have marketing boards during the colonial day.
“They create room for buyers to buy produce directly from local farmers.
” The buyers who are not government officials will in turn process the produce for export.
” This exportation will boost the economy of the country.” he added
Asite who accused some government officials of mismanaging funds meant for production and exportation of local produce, then stated that the practice of using government officials in getting produce from local producers should be discouraged .
He had earlier advised members of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines And Agriculture in Nigeria to be focused and determine to grow in the Chambers of Commerce movements.
