The Governor of Delta State , Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori has urged other kingdoms in Delta State to emulate the Okere Urhobo people in selection of HRM Ogheneochuko Morris Eyekpimi – Egboboyen Owhotemu II the Orosuen ( tradititioal ruler ) of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Area.
The Governor represented by his Deputy ,Chief ( Sir ) Monday John Onyeme gave the advice in his keynote address shortly before the presentation of staff of office to the traditional ruler at the Orosuen Palace , Edjemudarho Road , Okumagba Avenue Cinema Site , on Friday 22nd September, 2023.
Governor Oborevwori hailed the Okere Urhobo people for the peace and harmony that attended the selection of their new monarch.
He noted that Nigeria was in a peaceful democratic setting and therefore Nigerians should adopt democratic approach in settling inter and intra community disputes and that they should not allowed themselves to used by criminal elements and mischief makers to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that pervades the state.
While congratulating the Okere Urhobo people for the presentation of staff of office, he urged them to accord their monarch the desire respect and to also contribute to the sustainable development of the kingdom .
Governor Oborevwori however advised the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom to be even and transparent in dealings with his people , ” To who much is given , much is expected. So you should be fair and just in dealing with your people ” Governor Oborevwori further advised .
The Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi who spoke earlier also congratulated the Okere Urhobo people for the successful presentation of staff of office to their Orosuen as he noted that the emergence of the new Okere Urhobo monarch was done according to the chieftaincy laws and tradition of Okere Urhobo Kingdom .
He gladly disclosed that himself and the traditional ruler ( who was a councilor ) had worked peacefully and harmoniously in Warri South Local Government Council.
The Otota of Okere Urhobo Kingdom High Chief ( retired Brigadier General ) Gold Eburu had earlier in his welcome address on behalf of Okere Urhobo traditional council and Okere people expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his approval for the staff of office for the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo and to his deputy Chief Sir Monday John Onyeme for the presentation of the staff on behalf of Governor Oborevwori.
Eburu who is the traditional Prime Minister of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, gladly remarked that the Okere Urhobo people were longing to see the presentation of staff of office to good looking traditional ruler.
High point of the event was the presentation of staff of office to HRM Ogheneochuko Morris Eyekpimi – Egboboyen Owhotemu 11 the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom by the Deputy Governor of Delta State Chief Sir Monday John Onyeme .
The Publicity Secretary of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) , Worldwide Chief Luke Obemiguren Djebah, the Atuyota of Okere kingdom ,Chief Sylvester Udi and an Agbarha Warri respected personality, Chief Peter Ovie Okpeh who spoke to newsmen shortly after the event also congratulated the Okere Urhobo people for the successful event.
The colourful event was graced by the Chairman of Delta State Tradititioal Rulers Council, HRM ( retired Major General ) Felix Mujakperuo and a galaxy of tradititioal rulers from far and near, distinguished clergymen, policians among others.
