His Royal Majesty, Solomon Okukeren III, the Ovie of Arhavwarien Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government of Delta State has commended Delta state Governor,Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori ,through Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission DESOPADEC over the clearing of Arhavwarien canal to ensure free flow of the water into River Forcados.
His Royal Majesty ,Okukeren III,the Ovie of ARHAVWARIEN Kingdom expressed satisfaction over the exercise and commended Chief John Nani,Chairman,of DESOPADEC
” I am overwhelmed with the prompt response of Chief John Nani after putting a call to him less than two days he sent his team of Engineers to our kingdom As we speak they are still here working.
“It therefore means that flood is not going to punish my people this year, unlike last year when the town was flooded ,but this time with the clearing of canal and opening of our river by Delta State Government through DESOPADEC Chairman ,Chief John Nani I am overwhelmed. I thank him and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori when the right people are in power the people do not suffer”
Similarly some residents of Okere Road Warri, also commended the Delta State Government through its agency DESOPADEC for clearing weeds and wastes that covered the okere road canal
Mr Felix Eze,a business man whose shop was flooded and some of his goods destroyed said With the clearing of Okere Road Canal in Warri,residents of the area are relieved ,stressing “on Saturday when there was rain it was terrible Thank God it is all over that after this canal was opened the water from Ogboru,Plaza, Ugborikoko,that was blocked before can now flow to back of the prison ,to NPA and to Warri River.”
For his part Mr Felix Tijere,a resident of Okere Road whose shop is close to the canal thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,for keeping to his promised when they ( Landlords) met him during his inspection visit to the area .
While expressing happiness and thanks to DESOPADEC team for the opening of the Canal, Tijere said a lot of persons have lost their households during Saturdays heavy rainfall .
He however appealed to Delta State Government through DESOPADEC to clear canals in the state before the raining season and not during the rains to avoid destruction and loss of property.
