Warri Urhobo activist, Comrade Marcus Akuruli has faulted claim of the publisher of Urhobo Current Affairs, Mr Godstime Assin on Urhobo membership of Delta State House of Assembly.
Akuruli , who is the leader of All Progressive Congress (APC )in Edjeba Ward, Warri South Local Government Area berrated Mr Assin for his omission of Urhobo of Warri of the legislative house even right from the defunct Brendel State.
The Edjeba Agbarha Warri Urhobo activist who reacted to the said claim of Mr Assin in media chat with our correspondent in Warri on Tuesday 27th June, 2023 noted that it was very disappointing for Mr Assin to be so ignorant of the fact that Agbarha Warri born legal icon and historian Dr Emmanuel Urhobo ( of blessed memory ) was an elected member of the defunct Bendel State House of Assembly that represented Warri East Constituency and that in the present Delta State, another Agbarha Warri indigene late Chief Dennis Omovie , and an Okere Urhobo indigene Hon Matthew Poko Opuoru represented Warri South Constituency 11 at different times at the Delta State House of Assembly and that the incumbent member representing the constituency at the state house of assembly is an Agbarha Warri high chief, Hon Benson Obire.
” It is more disappointing to know that Mr Assin is the author of the book , ” When Warri was Warri .
” From his claim, it shows that he lacks knowledge of the people and history of Warri ”
“The 2 Warri Urhobo Kingdoms of Agbarha and Okere are among the 24 kingdoms that comprised Urhobo Nation and given equal recognition as such by Urhobo Progress Union.
” This fact should get into the heads of Mr Assin and his likes .” he added
While calling on Assin to include the Urhobos of Warri in his claim of Urhobo membership of Delta State House of Assembly, Akuruli also advised that Mr Assin and his likes should know that Warri South is an Urhobo local government area by virtue of the that the Urhobos of Warri were the majority ethnic group in the local government and that there are also Urhobo indigenes in Patani Local Government Area.
