Rotarians in Warri South ,Uvwie and Ughelli South local Government Areas of Delta state have admonished political parties and individuals to shun rancor and disunity in the forthcoming elections.
The Rotarians made the appeal on Thursday during a peace walk to sensitize the people of the areas on the need to be peaceful during and after the General Elections .
According to the Rotarians One of the areas of focus for the Rotary international District 9141 is peace building, conflict prevention, and resolution.
The Rotarians from Rotary clubs of Plantation City , Ubeji, Ogunu , Warri central ,Osubi Effurun and Edjeba staged a peace walk to the streets to sensitize the people on the need to be peaceful during and after the elections.
Over 100 Rotarians assembled at Airport junction roundabout, before embarking on the sensitization campaign, marching through major streets as early as 7am, sharing handbills ,dancing and singing songs of peace.
Some of the Presidents including Rotarians Nicholas Otobor, Hese Orode ,Michael Odili Franklyn Oteh said the peace walk was organised to let members of the public know that the elections is not a do-or-die Affair as there was too much tension ahead of the elections .
Others who spoke including Assistant Governor Designate Rotarian klem Douglas , Assistant Governor Designate
Rotarian Wilson Kokaraye Rotarian Ayodele Enikanselu
amongst others advised youths not to allow themselves to be used as thugs during the elections .
They appealed to residents in Warri South ,Uvwie ,Udu ,Ughelli South local government Areas , Delta state and Nigeria in general to come out en-masse and vote for candidates of their choice
The Rotarians urged the law enforcement agencies to be on ground to help maintain peace during the Elections
