As part of Efforts to Eradicate Polio from the world through immunization of children, Seven Rotary clubs in Warri and its environs on Saturday embarked on Polio Awareness Walk in some streets in Warri, Warri South local Government Area.
The seven clubs that participated in the joint Polio walk are Rotary Clubs Of Warri, Osubi and Effurun Dynasty, as well as Plantation City, Ubeji, Effurun Gateway and Effurun city Centre .
Rotary Club international has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years and had succeeded in reducing polio cases by 99.9 percent since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.
In Warri and its environs, Rotary clubs of Warri , Osubi, Effurun Dynasty, and Plantation City as well as Ubeji, Effurun Gateway and Effurun city Centre took to the streets of Warri on a Sensitization awareness Walk to inform Parents and Guidance on the need to allow their children and wards to be vaccinated against Polio virus.
During the awareness Walk, some of the Assistant District Governors including Rtns Kehinde Oisemaye and Gabriel Egba disclosed that Rotarians have continued to spend their time and money to ensure that polio vaccines are available for the immunisation of Children from the ages zero to five .
Others who spoke during the Sensitization walk including the Presidents of Rotary clubs of Warri , Osubi ,Ubeji,Effurun Gateway Effurun City Center and Effurun Dynasty Rotarians Cyril Ezomo, Nosa Ogie, Orode Hesse, Ike Agbenelo, Famous Agbonifo and Charles Eshemitan Urged Parents to take their children to the nearest health center and get their children vaccinated to prevent polio disease.
The Rotarians from the seven clubs walked through Ajamimogha road,Okere market down to the Health center at Eboh where they assisted the nurses to immunize some children under the ages of zero to five.
They also presented biscuits and juice to the children during the exercise.
