More than a hundreds of Ode Itsekiri Indigenes including children on Wednesday received free Dental care from the Nigerian Dental Association, Delta State Chapter.
The free Oral and Dental care was held at Ode Itsekiri Health Centre in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Chairman of the association, Dr Fabian Oghenekaro Edafioghor, said the free Dental check-up and treatment was in partnership with FDI world Dental Federation and Unilever (Pepsodent brand).
During the free Oral/Dental care outreach, beneficiaries were told the need to take their oral health care, seriously , and also given oral hygiene instruction and education which include, amongst other things, proper tooth brushing technich and other methods of maintaing a healthy oral environment.
Chairman, NDA,-Delta state chapter, Dr Fabian Oghenekaro Edafioghor, said this program captioned ” Talk to a Dentist” ( don’t wait until it is too late) kicked off here in Delta state at Iluelogbo grammar school, Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Council, on Wednesday, 11th day of October 2023.
In that event, the principal of the school, mr James Ubiebi, all members of staff and students of the school also enjoyed the same benefits as stated above.
Dr Edafioghor pointed out that most oral diseases were largely preventable and could also be treated or controlled when help is sought for on time.
He Also, emphasized that the “mouth is the gateway to the body” and many diseases can be detected by examining the mouth. So, it was paramount that we cater for our oral health.
He said the exercise have availed the beneficiaries opportunity to learn about oral health and good hygiene practices.
The Immediate past chairman of the Nigerian Dental Association, Delta state chapter, Dr Yvonne Osaretin Mabiaku, said that the outreach was in line with the association’s belief that a healthy nation translates to a productive nation.
She advised the beneficiaries to put into practice all that they had learnt. She emphasized the for oral hygiene practices such as, utilizing medium textured toothbrushes, changing them every three months or when their brittles are flared, utilization of fluoride containing toothpaste, visiting a dentist, at least twice in a year for scaling & polishing and for our routine Dental check ups, among other things.
The beneficiaries thanked the Nigerian Dental Association, Delta State Chapter for the gesture, promising to imbibe the knowledge learnt. Noting that the free Dental care has motivated them to improve on their oral hygiene habits.
Some of the services the beneficiaries enjoyed during the free Dental care were, Body mass index (BMI) measurement, Random blood sugar measurement, Blood Pressure Measurement, Dental Clerking and Examination, Scaling and Polishing, Dental Extractions of badly decayed teeth and Referral of more complicated cases to government owned tertiary hospitals.
All participants were given Unilever sponsored Toothpaste, (Pepsodent brand) and Toothbrushes.
