The acquisition of immunization cards is to be made compulsory in public schools in Delta State.
The Health Educator , Alaka Health Centre , Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area Mrs Evon Idara made the disclosure in a media chat with our correspondent shortly after a health stakeholders meeting at the residence of the Unuevworo ( the highest tradititioal chief ) of Uvwie Kingdom High Chief Hope Akasa near Alaka Health Centre , Alaka Quarters, Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area on Monday 5th June, 2023.
She explained that the policy was to ensure that pupils and students with low immune system were not admitted in public schools in Delta State.
Mrs Idara noted that people with low immune system were the ones that were adversely affected during the infamous covid 19 era.
To this end she stated that government will ensure that children from 0 to one year and two months were immunized
The Educator assured that the health centre provides free medical services and treatment for minor ailments such as malaria, free medical services for children under age 0 to 5 years , free delivery for pregnant women among others.
She however complained that most of the said services and facilities were poorly accessed by residents of the area .
Mrs Idara who expressed fears that some of the drugs may expire if they were not accessed, disclosed that there was a free eye treatment in health centre as at the time of the media chat.
The Executive Director of an NGO, Partners For Hope Nicholas Ugbenga who spoke to our correspondent after the interactive session affirmed that the services and most of the drugs at the health centre were free and that the few that were sold were far cheaper than those sold in public chemist stores.
High Chief Hope Akasa had earlier in the interactive session noted that health centres were like first aids and patients should not compare it with hospitals .
The need for more enlightenment campaign on services and relevance of the health centre was raised at the interactive session.
This prompted High Chief Hope Akasa to promise to host a workshop for stakeholders at the health centre in future date.
