A Delta Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Asaba has remanded Inspector, Ebri Ubi who recently shot dead a phone dealer, Onyeka Ibe while on duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the State.
The detention was sequel to a remand proceedings for the murder of the deceased in the presence of his wife.
The court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Center while the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution.
Ibe was murdered over N100. 00 extortion by the suspect while on stop and search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the State.
The suspect plea, was not taken, while his bail, was equally not granted in response to the opposition by the prosecutor, G. O Okwegbe, Esq.
The case was adjourned till May 8 2023.
It would be recalled that a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe says Inspector Ubi Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police force after the conclusion of the Orderly Room trial at the Delta State Police Headquarters.
DSP Edafe also revealed that the dismissed inspector was arraigned on Wednesday, March 19, 2023 before Asaba Magistrate Court on a remand proceedings for the murder of Onyeka Ibe.
He added that the court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Correctional Center while the case file be sent to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution of the suspect by the office of the DPP.”
Speaking further, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)said the Command has tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
He further wished that Inspector Ubi Ebri case will serve as a deterrent to other officers and men of the police in the command .
